Tales of Eternia New Game Plus and Carryover

Second playthroughs of Tales of Eternia Remastered carry nine switchable categories, and the day-one patch added titles. No official Grade Shop list.

Tales of Eternia New Game Plus and Carryover in Remastered

Load a cleared save file and Tales of Eternia Remastered opens a data transfer settings screen. Nine categories sit on it, each an independent ON or OFF switch: character information, titles, learned artes and spells, items in possession, Lens acquisition status, cooking recipes, Command, the Collector's Encyclopedia and the Monster Encyclopedia. Eight shipped with the game. Titles arrived in the v.2.0.0 day-one patch, so any pre-launch list ending with the line that titles are not transferred is out of date.

No official material calls this screen a Grade Shop, and no option list with Grade prices has been published, so a Grade cost table is not a measured Remastered fact. As of the October 15 and 16, 2026 launch, carryover is also not the interesting half of a second run.

  • Titles joined in v.2.0.0, the patch that shipped with launch.
  • Unknown difficulty and the full skit library need a cleared save, while Mania and Nereid's Labyrinth are first-playthrough content in this release.

The Nine Carryover Categories

The official change list gives the labels only, so the middle column records what each one says.

# Category What the official text establishes Added
1 Character information Not broken down; no official list of the stats inside Launch
2 Titles Stamped on the official page as a v.2.0.0 addition v.2.0.0
3 Learned artes and spells Techniques and magic already unlocked Launch
4 Items in possession Your inventory Launch
5 Lens acquisition status Label only on the remaster page; in the original release, Lens were hidden collectibles handed to Irene at the top of Chambard's first screen Launch
6 Cooking recipes The recipe book Launch
7 Command English rendering of a Japanese label closer to party orders Launch
8 Collector's Encyclopedia The item collection book Launch
9 Monster Encyclopedia The monster name book Launch

The list is published in Japanese, and the English labels above come from a pre-launch translation of that page. The Lens row is the one place where original-release knowledge fills in a bare label: the Irene hand-in is documented for the PlayStation and PSP versions, not on the remaster's page.

Items, recipes and both encyclopedias transfer, so a completion run keeps its inventory work. What resets is story-gated content, including anything the hourglass destination icon flagged; the sidequests and missables page lists what stops being available.

Titles Were Not on the Launch List

The pre-launch feature list was built from the official change list and published on July 19, 2026. One line in it has been overtaken by events.

Added a feature to carry over data from the second playthrough onwards. Loading a cleared save data will display the data transfer settings screen. You can select which elements to transfer by turning each item ON/OFF. *Titles are not transferred.

That version listed eight categories, titles excluded. The patch notes say the opposite:

Added "Titles" to the carryover elements for the second playthrough and beyond

Statement Where it came from Status
Titles are not transferred July 2026 translation of the official feature list Superseded by v.2.0.0
Added Titles to the carryover elements v.2.0.0 patch notes Current, and marked on the change list
Title carryover requires version 2.0.0

The official change list says the feature needs a v.2.0.0 update, and marks the title row as a v.2.0.0 addition. That build is the release-day version on every platform, so a fresh install is fine; a preview build or a pre-launch list shows eight items. The same patch added a Japanese-only Font Style option and fixed text bugs.

Titles come from optional content such as minigames and collectible hunting, which is why the patch matters: Reid's 10-Title Triumph sat at a 1.1% global unlock rate on Steam when the official achievement page was checked on October 17, 2026. The titles guide and achievements guide cover where each one comes from.

What Else a Second Playthrough Unlocks

Carryover is convenience. These are the actual second-run changes, all stated on the official change list.

Feature First playthrough Second playthrough onward
Skit Player Most previously viewed skits, with a few exceptions Every skit in the game
Sound Player BGM and sound effects Adds Battle Voice, Scenario Voice and Movie Select
Unknown combat level Not selectable Selectable from the start of the run
Mania combat level Selectable from the start, changed from the original release rules Same

The playable party gathered inside the airship cabin among machinery and a whale mural
The playable party gathered inside the airship cabin among machinery and a whale mural

Combat level changes under Menu, then Custom, then Combat Level, so Unknown is available the moment your second run starts. That is the strongest reason to replay here: Extreme is open from the first hour, but Unknown exists only from run two onward, and it is new to the remaster. The difficulty modes page compares the tiers.

One naming trap. The English translation of the official list renders the castle holding Nereid's Labyrinth as Balir Castle, while the official Japanese page names Shizel Castle: the same late-game castle in the Celestia arc. The Glimmer Spire and EX dungeon page covers what waits inside once it opens.

Grade Shop: Player Shorthand, No Official Option List

The phrase is player shorthand, not official naming. Most modern Tales games sell New Game Plus bonuses for Grade points, so players recognised the shape of this transfer screen and reused the name; the Steam store page's community side already describes it as a shop in all but name, which is community wording rather than documentation.

The official record is narrower. The change list and the patch notes describe per-category ON or OFF transfers and never mention Grade, a point balance or a shop name, and no option list with costs has been published. A Grade table with prices for this title cannot be traced to Bandai Namco material, so assume it came from another game in the series or a pre-release summary.

What to check on your own screen

The documented screen lists nine categories with a toggle each. Anything beyond those toggles is not covered by official text published as of October 17, 2026.

The official change list also covers what the original release locked. Nereid's Labyrinth was accessible in the original only in later playthroughs started from cleared save data, and Mania unlocked only after a second playthrough; both rules are gone in the remaster. One sub-event moved the other way: the Successive Champions bout of the Inferia City arena sub-event can be re-challenged after you clear it, with the reward item limited to once per playthrough and no second-playthrough requirement attached. The original versus remastered page covers the rest of what this build inherits from the PSP version.

Planning the Order of Your Second Run

Keep the cleared save file: the transfer screen appears when you load it, and the official text ties the feature to loading that save rather than to finishing the story again.

Decide what to reset before you move through the screen. Each category is its own switch, so items, recipes and both encyclopedias can stay on while you replay the plot. Missable events are not on the list, so time-limited content is still gone once the run restarts.

The separately sold level-up items raise the level of every party member at once, according to their Steam store descriptions, and the Deluxe edition and DLC page breaks down the paid packages.

FAQ

Does Tales of Eternia Remastered have New Game Plus? Yes. Loading a cleared save file displays the data transfer settings screen, where nine categories are switched on or off individually.

Do titles carry over in New Game Plus? Yes, as of v.2.0.0. The day-one patch added Titles to the carryover elements, and the official change list marks that row as a v.2.0.0 addition requiring that update.

Is there a Grade Shop in Tales of Eternia Remastered? No Grade Shop, Grade currency or price list has been published. Official material describes the transfer screen as per-category ON and OFF switches, and Grade Shop is shorthand borrowed from other Tales games.

Does my character level carry over? Character information is one of the nine categories, and the official text does not break the label down, so lists claiming to enumerate the stats it preserves are second-hand.

What difficulty unlocks on a second playthrough? Unknown, new to the remaster and not selectable on a first run. Extreme is available from the very start, and Mania is selectable from the start of the first playthrough even though the original release locked it behind a second run.

Do I still need a second playthrough for Nereid's Labyrinth? No. In the original release it was accessible only in playthroughs started from cleared save data, and in the remaster it unlocks during the first playthrough once you reach the interior of Shizel Castle.
